What makes Sweden so Great to live in? – Part 4 – Bjästa here we come

High Coast
After our last email to the real estate agent about the house in Bjästa, life simply went on as usual. We kept looking for houses in Sweden and made plans for our future there. What we didn’t know was that our lives would change one month after sending that email to the agent. Below, our adventure continues.
Bjästa

Can you come to Bjästa?

On a weekday evening, we were sitting together working in our office in our small home in the Netherlands. Both were working on our own computers, but our attention was drawn to an email that arrived late in the evening for Menno. On the small screen, we saw a response from the agent, asking whether we could come to Sweden and buy the house in Bjästa.

With pounding hearts, we opened the agent’s email.
Unexpectedly, our offer had been accepted by the previous owners, and they asked if we could come to Sweden on very short notice to view the house.

On one hand, we were incredibly happy and excited, but on the other hand, we found it very nerve-racking. We knew for sure that we were about to embark on a big adventure in the coming months.

Of course, there was still a lot to arrange before departure, but two weeks later, we were sitting in the camper with the three of us. We were able to borrow the camper from my father (the same camper we used for our big road trip). My mother came along with us for support and because we wanted to share this process with our family.

So at the beginning of November 2022, the three of us set off in the camper toward Sweden. We planned to stay overnight halfway at a parking area and expected to arrive at the house by the end of the afternoon.
Unfortunately, along the way we encountered a lot of snow (and we Dutch people had forgotten to put winter tires on the camper). This isn’t mandatory or necessary in the Netherlands, but in Sweden, it is, of course, very important. Even 300 km before arrival, we doubted whether we could and should continue—we were simply not well prepared for winter.

But despite that… we kept on going.

The surroundings became more and more beautiful: hills appeared, more snow, and the High Coast was stunning! The High Coast is one of the most popular places in Sweden, thanks to its beautiful nature, lakes, and hiking trails. A nice bridge opens the way (E4) to the North of Sweden.

The house in Bjästa is about 30 minutes from this beautiful park, so it was truly a joy along the way, though the tension was definitely there.

And after two days of traveling, the moment we had dreamed about for nights finally arrived. The exit to our mountain—the beginning of our adventure.

To be continued…
