Will we Buy our house? An extremely exciting time began for us. We were going to make an offer, wait, receive a counter offer, and much more. In the end, all of this turned out to be a great adventure on the way to our dream home.

Buy our house… Wht happened

After we had submitted an offer together via email to the real estate agent through the computer, the waiting period began to see whether there would be a counteroffer. A very exciting time for us.
This was because we had finally found our dream home, and a real estate agent who was willing to do business with us, even though we did not have a personal identification number and would buy our house using a transfer through our Dutch bank account.

Meanwhile, we waited for a counteroffer—and it did come. There was another person interested in the house.
The following week, we were busy with what felt like a kind of auction on the house; together with the other person, we were in a “battle” for it.

Through a message, a counteroffer came in, and we then had to email our real estate agent again with a counteroffer of our own (all very exciting).
Until the moment came when we made our final offer. We had a specific amount in mind and did not want to go above it.
This was because there were still additional costs for us to renovate the house, such as replacing the roof, installing heaters, painting the entire house both inside and out, fixing up the garden, renovating the sheds, and much more.

When, unfortunately, our final offer was not accepted, and yet another counteroffer came in, we stopped bidding. With pain in our hearts, we would continue searching for our place.
But nearly two weeks after the last offer, the house still had not been sold to the highest bidder.

I can still remember that one afternoon. Together with my wife, Kim, we wrote our final email to the real estate agent in our home office.
In it, we said:
If the owners still wish to sell the house to us, we will stick to the lowest offer we made from day one. You can email us if this is acceptable, and we will come to Sweden at very short notice to view the property and purchase the house immediately.

With this email, we closed this adventure, because many houses in Sweden are sold to the highest bidder. Nevertheless we didn’t buy our house just yet, we have to look at other places at Hemnet, and the whole process started over again.
