The Start of our Journey to Sweden

It was in the summer of 2021 that we, kim and I, went to Sweden for our holliday. It was in the Southern part of Sweden, the region is called Varmland. We stayed there for a short holliday, my idea to schow the wife something new and interesting. We knew about the nature and clean air, but feeling the space around us is what we were not used to.

The first few days, it was the end of september when I am not mistaking, we had to get used to the feeling of darkness, no lights along the roads, bit cloudy and therefore pretty dark. The first days we missed the light in the evenings, kind of scary it was, or was it intimidating? During the day we went to see the surroundings, the region has a lot to offer. We went on several daytrips and the more we travelled the more intriged we became.
We absolutely fell in love at first sight of this beautiful country. Sweden is known for his forrests, wildlife and artic climate( little more north). Even so the uncountable lakes and views.
We knew this would work for us, living in a less crowded place, living more close to nature, living in a country where the seasons are clear, not to warm and sometimes little cold, but the differences between North and South are big. Question was, where are we going to live, what are the ups and downs of the regions, wich ones did we like and wich ones absolutely not?

The Region of our Choise

We had to choose a region to live in, in the summer of 2022 we went on a roadtrip with a camper for 14 days. We travelled from the south to the polar circle and back again. We took not only the highway, but went often on the smaller roads to see real life and circumstances. With a list of houses selected on Hemnet (search engine for buying a house), we drove through all regions. A quick visit ofcourse, but also a guide of what we did and did not want when living in Sweden.
The selection made clear that we wanted to live in a region close to hospital, lager stores and not completely in the middle of nowhere. So not to busy and not too secluded, neighbours we would rather not have too close by. For some criteria we knew it would be hard to find it. We would keep looking for that place that deserves our name on it. The regions we preselected but was it right to do so? At the end a simple no, we bought our house in a different region as we expected before. Västernorrland is where we are now living.
